Portland
Mentoring Alliance
Mentoring
is a chance to contribute to the community
by having an impact on a young person's life.
Mentors
are simply individuals willing to build a meaningful relationship with a high
school student in hopes of making a positive impact. Interested individuals
fill out an application and are introduced to expectations and responsibilities.
Matches are made based on the student's academic and career goals. Trining is
designed areound the needs and interests of the mentor and mentee. A network
of support staff and peer mentors are available on a weekly basis.
Students
interested in fnding a mentor need only ask - do I want to learn about myself,
experience sonething new, and make a friend for life? Mentees are asked to meet
regularly with their mentors, at least one hour per week and participate in
career exploration activities. As with the mentor, training is provided around
the needs and interests of the mentor and mentee. A network of support staff
and peer mentors are available on a weekly basis.
