Comprehensive Guidance Program

Guidance is an intergral part of the total education process at Portland High School. Our goal is to assist all students in achieving their maximum personal development by helping students to identify and develop skills that will contribute to their success in school and beyond. Further, we believe that an effective guidance program begins when students enter the school as freshmen and continues as they progress through to their senior year.

Guidance Curriculum

The Portland High School guidance program is structured to promote and enhance student learning in the following areas:

  • Academic Development
  • Career Development
  • Personal/social Development

The guidance curriculum is composed of organized objectives and age-appropriate activities and is delivered by counselors in classrooms or small group settings. It is sequesntial in nature and is structured to meet the developmental needs of all students to ensure that every student is given an equal opportunity to participate fully in the educational process.
