Portland High School Sailing
Team 2006
In September 2006 students from Portland High School (PHS) and Casco Bay High School (CBHS joined forces and successfully won school committee approval for a school sanctioned sailing team at Portland High School. Portland High School's new Sailing Team is a member of the New England Sailing Association (NESSA), a division of the Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association (ISSA).
The new PHS Sailing Team welcomes all interested students from Portland High School and Casco Bay High School to join the sailing team. No experience is necessary because unlike many High School sports the PHS Sailing Team offers a Learn to Sail level in addition to Varsity and Junior Varsity levels. High School sailing is one of the few school sport activities where girls and boys can compete with each other on equal terms. The PHS Sailing Team practices at SailMaine located at 58 Fore Street. SailMaine is a non-profit sailing program that supports High School racing, and junior sailing. SailMaine provides 420 sailboats, access to the water, instruction, equipment, scholarships and sailing school facility. PHS Sailing Team T-Shirts are available.
