MATH TEAM
At last Wednesday's math meet at Deering, the Portland High Math Team secured the First Place title for large schools in Pi-Cone South Math League for the eighth consecutive year. The team scored 308 points at that meet, first in the league of twenty-nine schools in Southern Maine. Kayla Artinyan scored 55 points, missing only one question. Nathaniel Walden had 53 points, followed by Gavin Bauer with 42 points, Brian Furey with 41 points and Tim Weber with 39 points. The team will compete at the State Math Meet at the Cumberland County Civic Center on April 15th and at the New England Math Meet on May2nd.
In the Maine Association of Math Leagues, the Bulldogs finished the regular season in third place. Nathaniel Walden, Gavin Bauer and Kayla Artinyan have qualified to compete at the American Regional Math League meet at Pennsylvania State University on the Maine All-Star Math Team. Brian Furey and Hongchuan Wang, also in the top forty in the state, are amongst the alternates to that team. For more details, go to http://maml.net/ and Pi-Cone South.
