Nasia Ashkir, a sophomore at Portland High School, is one of only five students in the United States to be awarded a full scholarship for travel in Greece. Nasia will be traveling to Greece through the Immersion Presents scholarship offered by the Boys and Girls Club and Youth Leadership. The trip will coincide with Dr. Ballard’s, of Titanic fame, research expedition to explore the eruption of ancient Thera. Nasia will also engage in live expedition broadcasts, interact with the ship-based crew from Santorini, and explore important geology and archaeology associated with the Minoan citivilization.
